Doogee Titans2 (DG700) Review: Toughness meets beauty

Doogee is one of the newly born Chinese brands. There are just a few smartphones in their portfolio, but it’s obvious that the company tries to attract more attention. Their line for 2015 offers some quite interesting models and Doogee Titans 2 is probably the most curious phone there. It’s a handset that you don’t see every day and has much to offer.

Design and build quality

Doogee definitely put lots of efforts not only to produce rugged phone, but to make it good looking as well. Doogee Titans2 (we are not sure why there’s no space before 2) is what we can call thick phone. The exact dimensions are 141.7 x 72.4 x 13 mm. The phone is actually bigger than an average 5-inch smartphone, although it has smaller screen. It’s heavy with a weight of 230 gr and you need some time to get used to it. It feels really solid, all components are tied and there are no loose parts. The buttons are small and metal and you need to press them hard. Actually it’s not really hard, but you definitely need to put more efforts, than with an average smartphone. There is a metal frame at the left and the right side of the phone and it’s curved to the top and the bottom. At the left side there are two buttons, which are the volume rocker. At the right side you’ll find two buttons as well. One power button and one programmable smart key (we’ll cover that later). There’s nothing at the bottom except for a small microphone hole. There’s a cover for the micro usb and the 3.5mm jack at the top, which should be closed, if you want to have a waterproof phone. The bezels around the screen are thick, just like the phone itself. There are three navigation buttons below the screen, which unfortunately are not back-lightened and not so comfortable for operating in a dark room. Above the screen you’ll find the front camera, a notification light (which actually is pretty strong) and sensors. The back skin-like lid is actually removable and it gives you access to the sim card slots, the battery and the microSD card slot. However you’ll need to remove the rubber mat before that, which protects the battery and the sim card from water damage.

The metal frames and the skin-like lid make the phone a little bit slippery. Combine this with its weight and thickness and you get one not so comfortable for operating handset. It’s just 4.5 inches, but because of the thick bezel at the bottom it feels like you are operating with bigger device. Most of the people will be scared by the size and weight and it’s definitely not the best present you can get for your girlfriend.
