Elephone G1 – the cheapest quad-core phone you can get

Our Elelphone G1 review is now available – check it here. It’s difficult to imagine that you can buy a decent Android smartphone for just $50, but Elephone is trying to offer such. Believe it or not $50 can get you a whole quad-core Android phone. Elephone G1 is equipped with MTK6582M – a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and Mali 400 GPU. And that’s not all. Being a cheap device, doesn’t mean that you are absolute outsider according to Elephone G1. Image of white Elephone G1The phone has 5 points multi-touch 4.5 inches FWVGA resolution screen (854×480), which gives acceptable 218 pixels per inch. There are two cameras on board – 5MP back one with flash light and 1.3MP front camera. Unfortunately you should forget about the macros, because the main camera will be most likely with fixed focus. Moving to the storage, Elephone G1 will carry 4GB (the available memory will be probably cut in half due to the operating system) expandable (there’s microSD card slot) available space for your files and 512MB ram memory for multitasking. The ram memory is a little bit low, but we can’t expect much from such cheap device. Thankfully the phone is going to run Android 4.4.2 KitKat and we hope that Elephone will manage to optimize it well enough for the 512MB ram.

Image of black Elephone G1Elephone G1 will support GPS and dual sim standby, something typical for the budget Chinese smartphones. One 1800mAh battery will take to power the phone, but we noticed that some online retailers have listed the battery with actual capacity around 1300mAh. It’s quite confusing and we hope that it’s really at least 1800mAh.

Let’s also mention the phone will support 2G and 3G, although not so wide range of 3G frequencies. The phone works with GSM:850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA 850/2100.

The design of the phone itself doesn’t look cheap and it reminds us of the ZTE Nubia series. The phone will be offered with variety of colors – black ,white, blue, pink.

What’s interesting is that the phone is not announced on Elephone’s official website, but at online retailer, which claims to be authorized Elephone re-seller. According to the website, the phone should be released at the end of the month.
