At the beginning of the month we saw the cheapest quad-core smartphone released by Elephone – Elephone G1. Now the company is trying to offer another interesting device for no money. Elephone G2 looks like G1’s bigger brother with some slight design changes. Let’s check the main specifications of Elephone G2.
Elephone G2 main specifications
Dimensions: 66.6 mm x 134.0 mm x 8.9 mm
Processor: MTK6732 quad-core 64-bit 1.5GHz processor
Operating system: Android 5.0
Memory: 1 GB RAM + 8 GB ROM
Display: 4.5-inch IPS, 854 × 480 pixels
Camera: 5 MP (interpolated to 8 MP) back camera with flashlight, 2 MP front camera
Price: from $110
Keep in mind that not all specifications are officially confirmed and there might be slight changes. We will update the article once we receive official information about the exact specifications.
The display is a little bit disappointing with just FWVGA resolution, but at least this should help for longer battery life. Luckily it’s an IPS, which means that there are decent viewing angles.
The company claims that the battery of Elephone G2 is enough for 11 hours of watching videos, 20 hours of internet surfing or 40 hours of calls. We are really skeptic about these numbers and probably the real values are several times less.
The device is equipped with the new 64-bit MTK6732 and Mali-T760 GPU, which should be more than enough for a lag-free performance. It’s interesting what the graphics results will be, since the phone has the same GPU as Galaxy Note 4, but much lower resolution.
One of the main advantages of Elephone G2 is the wide range of connectivity options. The phone should work with 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, 3G: WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz, 4G: FDD-LTE: 800/1800/2100/2600MHz. For just a little bit more than $100 you can get a smartphone, which should work almost everywhere around the world. However keep in mind that not all broadband frequencies are confirmed (the bold ones may not be available).
One of the interesting rumors, which is rolling around, about the phone is that it will also support Cyanogenmod, MIUI and LEWA ROM. Elephone G2 probably will be shipped with Android Lollipop and the other roms will follow later. It will be great, if you can choose between 4 different roms for such a cheap device.
Elephone G2 is scheduled to hit the shops in March, but no exact date has been announced yet.
