Although Android Lollipop 5.0 was released a few months ago, we still see almost no smartphones with the latest available software. Just a few devices have been upgraded and none new have been released. Of course there are some handsets, which should be upgraded in future, but it’s not quite obvious, when exactly. iOcean Rock is another Chinese smartphone, which is promising a future upgrade to Android Lollipop 5.0. A promise is better than nothing, right ?
Even, if we put the Lollipop upgrade aside, iOcean Rock has a lot to offer. The device will be powered by 64-bit MTK6752 – octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz . It supports 4G (FDD and TDD) and ultra-video playback (UHD). You should not worry about the multitasking, because the phone will be equipped with 3 GB RAM. Something, which we used to see in the 2014 most popular flagships, produced by the major manufacturers. The RAM memory should be produced by Samsung and will be the one Samsung uses with their smartphones. The on-board memory will be 16 GB plus a microSD card slot.
iOcean Rock will be equipped with big 5.5-inches FHD (1920 x 1080) display with more than 400 ppi. The back camera will be a 14 MP with the usual features for the Chinese manufacturers – voice capture, smile recognition, gesture wake up, continuous shot and so on. There’s going to be a function Smile improvement, which probably is similar to the Beautification features equipped with most of the Chinese handsets. The front camera will be 5 MP, but there’s still no information, if the cameras are equipped with any popular sensor and what’s the aperture.
iOcean Rock will be paired with 2300mAh battery and will support quick charge technology. According to the manufacturer, the phone should be able to charge with 50% for just 30 minutes. Now that’s a fast charge.
There are going to be two speakers on board and probably the phone should produce great sound.
Looking at the connectivity, in addition to the 4G frequencies, iOcean Rock will support dual wifi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), which will give your phone a great speed. There’s also a GPS support by A-GPS and GLONASS, so you should not worry about getting lost. The phone will support dual sim.
A few words about the design. The exact measures are 154.7 x 76.9 x 8.2 mm, which is actually shorter and narrower than iPhone 6 Plus (but thicker with about 10 mm). The handset will weight 158 gr (14 gr lighter than iPhone 6 Plus) and according to iOcean the name ‘Rock’ is inspired by the nature, so they will try to give the phone a sandstone look.
As we mentioned Android Lollipop 5.0 should arrive to iOcean Rock. The phone will start with KitKat 4.4, but later should receive an upgrade to 5.0. We can only hope that the guys at iOcean will keep their promise.
Did you find it interesting ? Then you can queue for the pre-order, because the phone will ship at the end of February. Currently it’s the early pre-order stage and there are limited quantities for the price of $200. Later, when the release date is closer the price will go up.
