Remember the Asus’ mysterious teaser about the still-unannounced-back-then Zenfone 2 ? It turned out that the things, which looked like double back cameras are actually just double flash lights. We were hoping that Asus Zenfone 2 will try to catch up the newly released Huawei Honor 6 Plus with another double cameras technology, but probably our expectations were a little bit too high. However Asus managed to impress us with the new Zenfone 2. The device looks solid, has competitive price and definitely worths our attention.
The big news are that Asus Zenfone 2 is going to be the first smartphone with 4GB ram memory. Actually there will be several different versions of the smartphone and the most expensive one (probably around $250) will be pumped up with as much as 4GB ram. Asus Zenfone 2 is going to be improved in almost every aspect compared to its predecessor. First the size is going to be 5.5 inches and the resolution will go up to FHD (1920×1080). The processor again will be different for the different versions. It will be a quad-core Intel clocked from 1.8GHz to a version with 2.3GHz. Just to remind you that the most powerful processor running on the previous Zenfone versions was dual-core up to 2GHz. According to some benchmarks we saw, the quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 running on 2.3GHz should easily leave behind Snapdragon 805.
Moving to the camera, again we are going to see different cameras. The cheapest version of Zenfone 2 will be equipped with 8MP, while the more expensive one will have 13MP back camera. The front camera will be a 5MP 85-degree wide angle one, so you can be sure that nobody is missing from the selfies.
Other interesting features are the big 3000mAh battery, fast charging, Android 5 Lollipop out of the box with ZenUI, various colorful options and unique back panels.
The price is $200 without taxes, but keep in mind that this is for the cheapest version. If you are looking at the 4GB plus 2.3GHz quad-core and 13MP camera, then you should prepare $250, which is still awesome price for a devices with such specifications.
Zenfone 2 Zoom
Zenfone 2 Zoom has the same specifications except the back camera. The name itself tells us that this is going to be a device focused mainly on shooting pictures. The 13MP back camera with 3x optical zoom and image stabilization will do the job well. There will be a laser focus, similarly to the focus system used on the LG G3. It’s worth saying that Zenefone 2 Zoom is going to be the thinnest phone with 3x optical zoom with 11.95mm. This doesn’t sound much thin, but it looks like a super model compared to 16.6mm Galaxy K zoom. As always the price for such technology is higher and the smartphone is expected to cost around $400.
Zenfone 2 should hit the markets in Q2 2015, probably March or April. Until then we can only hope that Asus will manage to bring these superb devices to as many market as possible
